Fruit That Will Last

Comforting Scriptures in Trying times

Introduction: A Cry For Help

It is very sad to see the intense feelings of anger, depression, fear, and hopelessness seen and heard from some of our Christian brothers and sisters because of what the world around them is going through. Those feelings are absolutely justified, but we must be careful not to lose control.

Jesus did say we would have trouble in this world (John 16:33), but He did not expect us to be consumed by it (Matthew 18:7). Jesus does not want us to be angry all day (Ephesians 4:26).

We must not let the lying devil (John 8:44) consume us, and have God’s love, Jesus’ death and resurrection, and the comforting Holy Spirit replaced with the devil’s antics.

It is important for our brothers and sisters in Christ to use the scriptures daily to be able to answer the questions that trouble them.

In our morning devotion, we chose some comforting and helpful scriptures in the hope that these scriptures would answer their questions and remind them of who they are in the kingdom of God.

Sometimes there are difficult questions about what is happening in our community, state, and nation. Here are some comforting scriptures on what God says.

Scriptures on God’s Love, Governments, and Sovereignty

  • God says to love Him and your neighbor (Matthew 22:36-40)
  • God says to love our enemies (Matthew 5:43-44)
  • God establishes the governments and authorities (Romans 13:1-7)
  • God knows what is going on (Psalm 139)
  • God is always in control (Proverbs 16:9)
  • God can handle any situation that is impossible for us (Luke 18:27)

Sometimes there are difficult questions having to do with unanswered prayers. Here are some comforting scriptures on what God says.

Scriptures on Judging Others, God’s Timing, and Effective Prayers

  • God’s ways are not our ways, and God’s thoughts are not our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9)
  • Everything happens in God’s perfect timing (2 Peter 3:8-9)
  • Your heart and attitude may not be ready (Hebrews 4:12)
  • Do not judge others, or you may be judged (Matthew 7:1)
  • The effective prayers of a righteous man (James 5:16)
  • Stop being a hypocrite, since you have also sinned (John 8:7)
  • Fix your mess first before trying to fix other people’s mess (Matthew 7:3-5)
  •  Do not forget the prayer Jesus taught us (Matthew 6:9-13)
Our Thoughts:

We tend to forget what happened to Daniel and his people when the Babylonians destroyed Jerusalem, captured them, and had them live among strange people (Daniel 1). What about Lot who was tormented while he was living in Sodom and Gomorrah, because of the terrible evil going on around him (Genesis 19)? In these situations, God was always in control, and He loved and protected his people.

Consider a beautiful Christian family that loved obeying God’s Word, living in Germany with Hitler as their leader.  What about the beautiful Christian families living in the USA,  with a nation divided against each other during a worldwide pandemic? God was and is always protecting and loving His people.

Let us remember that we are Kingdom Children and the Holy Spirit is here to guide and comfort us, while we are in the world (John 16:13-14).

Here are some comforting scriptures that describe what the Holy Spirit is doing in all of us today

  • We are in the world, but we are not of the world (John 17:13)
  • We are children of the Light (1 Thessalonians 5:5)
  • We must let our light shine (Matthew 5:16)
  • We are the salt of the earth (Matthew 5: 13)
  • We do not conform to the pattern of this world (Romans 12:2)
  • We have God our Father in heaven who gave us Jesus (John 3:16)
  • We will never be alone (Matthew 28:20)
  •  We  have the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16)
  • We love thinking about Jesus (Philippians 4:8-9)
In Conclusion:

If you have the love of Christ in you, then you would not want to hate others (1 John 2:3-6). God loves the world so much that He sent His Son so that you could have life if you choose to believe in Him (John 3:16). Jesus wants you to have life and have it more abundantly (John 10:10). This means to live a life where you are experiencing the fruit of the Spirit – Love, joy, peace, etc (Galatians 5:22-23) – And not a life of hate (Galatians 5:19-21). There is peace even in the midst of a storm (Mark 4:39). Be free and comforted, Christian brothers and sisters, in Jesus.
