Fruit That Will Last

Bearing Fruit

What is this fruit that Jesus wants us to produce to show that we are his disciples and which the Father finds so much glory in?  So much that He continues to prune us in order to produce more? (John 15:8)

The Fruit of The Spirit

We believe it is the Fruit of the Spirit: Love; Joy; Peace; Patience; Kindness; Goodness; Faithfulness; Gentleness; and Self-control. (Galatians 5: 22-23) We need to bear this kind of fruit so that we will not be overcome by the desires of the flesh. (Galatians 5:16)

Do Not Follow The Desires Of The Flesh!

Following the desires of the flesh means that your daily living is based solely on your senses. Let us look at how operating only with the senses, without the Holy Spirit looks like. Eyes: If it looks good to me, I want it. If it looks bad to me, I don’t want it. Ears: If it sounds good to me, I want it. If it sounds bad to me, I don’t want it. You can apply these kinds of fleshly living to the rest of your basic senses: touch, smell, and taste.

Look at how the acts of the flesh is described in Galatians 5:19-21 and the warning that follows. “The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.”

The Warning: "I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.”

Walk By The Spirit!!

So the goal is to walk by the Spirit, which is to allow Jesus to be Lord and Savior of your fruit-bearing life, thus showing the world that you are a disciple of Jesus and your daily living brings glory to God, our Father. (John 15:8) When you walk by the Spirit, the Spirit transforms you into someone who starts to bear fruit. Romans 12:1-2 states “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

This is a description of those who walk in the Spirit. “And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” (Galatians 5:24-25). You know that you belong to Christ because He said in John 15:7-8, “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.” You are a disciple of Jesus if you abide in him and His words abide in you. Jesus’ words are so important because it is the Word of God. When the Word of God finds a home in your spirit you are a changed person.
