More On God's Rest

Whenever you hear a word from God, consider it good news and believe it. When you believe God’s message, you will enter His rest, which means you will enjoy His blessings.

Hebrews 4:1 Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it. 2 For we also have had the good news proclaimed to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because they did not share the faith of those who obeyed. 3 Now we who have believed enter that rest, just as God has said,

“So I declared on oath in my anger,

‘They shall never enter my rest.’”

When you enter God’s Sabbath rest, you can praise, honor, worship, and thank God for all He provided for you while you were working. Also, you can devote all your time in God’s rest to loving Him and receiving His blessing. Remember that God rested from all His work on the seventh day, blessed the day, and made it holy. You should expect nothing less when you enter God’s Sabbath rest: His rest, His blessing, and His Holiness.

Hebrews 4:9 There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; 10 for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his. 11 Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience.

Whatever you are doing during your work week, there will be times that you need a Sabbath rest before Sabbath, the seventh day. One of the best ways to get God’s attention, and there are many ways, is to read the Word of God. The Word of God is also known as the Sword of the Spirit in Ephesians 6:17

When the Word of God gets inside of you, through reading and understanding the message, the Word of God, sharper than a double-edged sword, cuts away the passions and desires of the flesh (Galatians 5:24) so that the Holy Spirit can do His work in you. Everything about you, and I mean everything, is revealed to God, and He will give you the rest you need to complete your work week. What a mighty God we serve and love.

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

Ephesians 6:17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Galatians 5:24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

It is wonderful to know that Jesus, our Priest in Heaven, knows what we are going through because He went through it Himself when He was on earth. As our Priest, Jesus advocates for us when we are weak and weary, and He advocates for us when we are tempted because He has experienced everything we have experienced –yet Jesus, our Priest, did not sin.

Hebrews 4:14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. 16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
