Can you remember a time when you were deeply hurt, for whatever reason, and it caused a reaction in your body: your face began to contort, tears started flowing out of your eyes, the sound of weeping came out of your mouth, you did not know what to do with your hands or feet, and your whole body shook?
What about when your favorite team has thirty seconds on the clock and is about to win their most difficult and prestigious game? Did you feel like your heart was about to leave your body? Did you clench your fists? Did you grit your teeth? Were your eyes wide open? And the sound coming out of your mouth, was it screeching loud and unearthly?
Do you see how humans can get emotional about whatever they deem important? Jesus called whatever the world sees as important their treasure. He said that whatever is important to you has captured your heart. Jesus wants to be your treasure. He wants you to love Him with all your heart, soul, and mind so that He becomes your treasure. All those intense feelings of godly love and religious expressions of the body should be a celebration of what He continues to do for you as a Kingdom child living in the world.
Most people cry when things are not going so well or become tragic. Instead, we should be crying tears of joy more often for what Jesus continues to do for us each day. Why don’t you jump for joy and go crazy for God like King David did when he took the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem (2 Samuel 6:14-15)?
David could act like that for the Lord because He loved the Lord with all his heart, soul, and mind. You can also see his expression of love for God in the book of Psalms. Have you ever written a personal song or letter to God our Father, thanking Him for the life you now live because of His Son Jesus? Here is how you cry tears of joy for Jesus: when you feed the hungry, give a drink to the thirsty, invite a stranger into your home, provide clothes for the needy, visit the sick in the hospitals, and visit those in prison. Jesus said that when you do things for people who do not have what you have, you do it to Him (Matthew 25:37-40).
We should always love and help the poor as much as possible. God’s Word for the poor who love Him is absolutely precious (James 2:5). This tells me that there are poor people that do not know or love Him, but He loves them still, no matter what. Remember, we are told that God sent His Son, Jesus, to save the world because He loved them (John 3:16). God knows what is going on in the world with His children, whom the world sees as poor. However, God chose them and made them rich in faith, and He promises that they are the ones who will inherit the Kingdom of God. Being rich in faith means you are great at trusting in God, regardless of your difficulties. You know without a doubt that He will always provide for your needs (Philippians 4:19), and His promises (James 2:5b) are always Yes, in Jesus (2 Corinthians 1:20)!
I pray that this article will be a blessing to a child of God who is so consumed with saving the world that they get off course in their personal relationship with the Father. I pray they stay strong in saving the world while remaining close to their loving, capable God, their Father. A Father whose will for their precious time in the world is good, pleasing, and perfect (Romans 12:1-2), and I share this prayer in the Name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and the Fellowship of the Holy Spirit, Amen.
Scripture Passages
Matthew 6:19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Matthew 22:34 Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. 35 One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: 36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” 37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
2 Samuel 6:14 Wearing a linen ephod, David was dancing before the Lord with all his might, 15 while he and all Israel were bringing up the ark of the Lord with shouts and the sound of trumpets.
Matthew 25:37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ 40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
James 2:5 Listen, my dear brothers and sisters: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him?
Philippians 4:19 And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.
2 Corinthians 1:20 For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.
Romans 12:1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
