How Does The Word Of God Bear Fruit In Us?

Introduction - Part 2

Jesus reveals some amazing things about Himself and the Father in John 14:5-11 and how His Father works inside of Him, showing His work for everyone to see. The things Jesus can do result from the Father working in Him, and Jesus says, “either believe what I say or believe in the evidence of the work themselves.”

 

John 14:5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”

 

6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”

 

8 Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”

 

9 Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. 11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves.

Jesus reveals to His disciples that He is the way, the truth, and the life, and the only way to get to the Father is through Him and that if they have seen Him, they have seen the Father also. Jesus also reveals that the Father lives and works inside of Him and if people do not believe that, “they should believe in the evidence of the work themselves.” 

Let us look further into how the Father and the Son work so that we can bear fruit for His glory.

In Ephesians 3:16-17, we are told that God is strengthening us with power through His Spirit in our inner being (spirit) so that Jesus can live in our hearts by faith.

 

Ephesians 3:16 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith.

 

The power that we gain from having a loving God in our spirit, strengthening us so that Jesus Christ can live in our hearts through faith, is beyond amazing. Let us look at Ephesians 3:17b-19 to find out what we gain from having such power living in us, where we love God, our Father, and trust and obey His Son, Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

Ephesians 3:17b-19 states that the power of God allows us to grasp the immense love Jesus has for every one of us so that the fullness of God would fill us up for His glory. We submit to the power of God to do His good, pleasing and perfect will in us (Romans 12:2b) when we put all, not some, but all, our faith in Jesus, who strengthens us. Philippians 4:13 states, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” This is power!!

 

Ephesians 3:17b …  And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

 

Can you imagine the size of God’s love for us through His wonderful Son, Jesus? No, we cannot imagine it, but with the power of God, together will all the saints, we may be able to “grasp how wide, long, high and deep is the love of Christ (Ephesians 3:18).”

 

Now, let us wrap up this beautiful, wonderful introduction — (please forgive me for my arrogance in using the word beautiful and wonderful, I am being overwhelmed with love from the Father and the Son, and the introduction is still not finished) —  Let me take a moment and try to type again.
